Why HomeSchool

Reasons for home schooling are as varied as the children who attend home schools. Many people cite reasons of public school and teacher inadequacy for home schooling. Many tend to cite all the negative aspects of public schools. We like to tell the reasons why, as servants of God, we are required to provide our children with a Christian-based education.

We feel that anything we may face can be answered in God's Holy Word, the Bible. The Bible tells us how we have to conduct ourselves and what our responsibilities are toward God, family, friends (and enemies), and work. We hope the following Scriptures will help you to see how God intended our children to be taught and educated.

1) Proverbs 22:6
6: Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
(Are we teaching our children how a servant of God should live?)

2) Psalms 127:3-5
3: Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord and the fruit of the wombis his reward.
4: As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.
5: Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with enemies at the gate.

3) Ephesians 6:4
4: And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath; but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

4) Deuteronomy 4:9
9: Only take heed to thyself, and heep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they departfrom thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons' sons;

5) Deuteronomy 11:18-19
18: Therefore shall ye lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul, and bind them for a sign upon your hand, that they may be as frontlets between your eyes.
19: And ye shall teach them to your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in the thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

6) Proverbs 6:23
23: For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:

(Are we training and counseling our children concerning the way God would have them to live? Are we diligently teaching our children God's commandments and principles ALL the time, not just during church services or Sunday School? Are we teaching our children about God's power and what he has done for us and for the people in the Bible?)

7) Psalms 1:1-2
1: Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor standeth in the seat of the scornful.
2: But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

8) II Corinthians 10:5
Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into capivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

9) Isaiah 54:13
13: And all thy children shall be taught of the LORD; and great shall be the peace of thy children.

10) Jeremiah 10:2
Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.

11) Colossians 3:1-10
1: If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
2: Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
3: For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Chirst in God.
4: When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.
5: Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:
6: For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:
7: In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.
8: But now ye also put off all these; angerwrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.
9: Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds.
10: And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that create him:

12) Romans 12:1-2
1: I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
2: And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

(Are our children being taught to meditate upon God's Words and promises in public schools? Are they being taught to think as Christians or non-Christians (heathens)? Are they being taught "the way of the heathen"? Are our children being "conformed to this world" and its ways by the public schools?)

13) Proverbs 13:20
He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

14) I Corinthians 15:33
Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.

(Do our children really need the "socialization" provided by public schools? Would our children benefit from being around Godly influences?)

15) Psalms 111:10
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.

16) Proverbs 1:7
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

17) II Timothy 2:15-16
15: Study to show thy self approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
16: But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.

(True knowledge and true wisdom are taught of God. Are our children being taught of God in public schools? Whose wisdom are our children being taught in public schools? Are we offending or harming our children by sending them to public schools?)

We must teach our children to believe, think, and live as Christians. To accomplish this task we must teach them about God, His commandments and words, each day.

There are many methods of home schooling. All home schooling families are different and have their own distinct situations. Therefore, many curriculums and books have been developed and written to try to accommodate these varied families with their specific needs in home schooling their children.

May God bless your home schooling efforts. If you have further questions about getting started with home schooling your children, please contact us by clicking here.
